When did you first learn to surf?
My parents raised us around the ocean. Growing up in Hawaii, the beach was basically our second home, after school, all weekend, nonstop. The endless beach days got us surfing early on, probably right after we got bored of the boogie!
What’s your favourite board to ride and how would you describe your surfing style?
Anything from Ricardo Garcia @RGarcia_surfboards! He’s a talented shaper and an incredible surfer from Ensenada. I first got my hands on one of his logs after winning a contest in Mexico — it was the prize, and my first real log. I rode that thing non-stop until we decided it was finally time for an upgrade. I’m down to ride anything, logs, twins, mid lengths even a really nuts shortboard but I’m most at home on a log.
Any dream spots you haven’t served yet, but are on your bucket list?
Definitely the Telos, a boat trip with all my friends, nothing but good waves and good vibes.
Can you walk us through a typical day in your life?
I don’t live on north shore so, there’s no such thing as a typical day for me. The only things you can count on are coffee in the morning and some kind of ocean time, whether I’m surfing or just jumping in for a quick dip.
As a young business owner preparing to open your own café, what inspired you to take that leap?
I grew up in the food and beverage industry, spending my childhood in the kitchen, prepping food and bussing tables after school and on weekends. My grandma and my mom were my biggest inspirations, so opening a shop and creating dishes and drinks I love just felt like the natural next step.
What’s your go to surf wear or style when you’re out of the water?
Any pop of colour is definitely my style!
Thanks Mahina! Finally, where can people find you?
Thank you!
